TFB Benefits from Successful “Stuff The Cruiser” Event

On August 23rd the OPP “Stuff the Cruiser” Event was held at Peacock’s Foodland in Tobermory.  Due to the very generous donations of those who came by, 174 kg (384 lbs.) of grocery items were donated along with $568 in cash.  A great help to the Tobermory Food Bank. As the fall season begins, we anticipate the increased number of clients will continue.  Many thanks to OPP Auxiliary Staff Sergeant Tom Buckley for once again giving up a Saturday to be on site from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to receive the donations.  This event has been happening for many years, in the summer and just before Christmas, and it really makes a difference to the food we have available for those in need.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel the Fundraising Hot Dog BBQ scheduled for Saturday August 30th.  Our apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment that the cancellation may have caused. Like all the things we do, we depend on the availability of volunteers, and due to illness and other commitments on a long weekend, we did not have enough volunteers to have the event.  But there will be other Hot Dog BBQs and fundraising events that the community supports, for which we are so very grateful.

The number of visits to the Tobermory Food Bank increases in the fall and going into the winter season.  If you did not have an opportunity to drop by the Stuff the Cruiser event and wish to donate, there are many ways:

  • You can drop grocery items off at the Tobermory Post Office, the entrance way at the Tobermory Community Centre or during Food Bank Hours Tuesdays 1-3 p.m. at the Meeting Place.
  • Cash donations can be made by e-transfer using tobermoryfoodbank@gmail.com and providing full name and mailing address so that you receive a tax receipt for donations over $20.
  • Or you can mail a cheque to Tobermory Food Bank, P.O. Box 144, Tobermory ON, N0H 2R0

If you have any questions about the Food Bank or how you can help by donating or volunteering, please contact Linda Godhue at 519-596-2333.

Wishing everyone a great start to fall with all that it brings.
